Never Forget with Sticky Notes

Sticky Notes, reminder app,

If you are a Windows 7 and above user, you may or may not know about Sticky Notes. Just to give you a little crash session, Sticky Notes are like virtual post-its that you can use in anyway to help you recall information that is important to you. It is a quick way to save information without having to create a word document or even a notepad entry. It is always readily available and you can “mute” them by simply deselecting the icon that appears on your taskbar, so that they are in the background, freeing you to go about your business as usual.

Sticky Notes are great for everyone, but I think this is a great little nugget for entrepreneurs that seldom gets utilized. In fact, a lot of people are not even aware that Sticky Notes exist on their pcs’. For Mac users, there is a Stickies equivalent. Click here for a great resource on how to utilize on Apple computers. I don’t do Apple so that is the best I can do.

For Windows, if you do not already see Sticky Notes pinned to your taskbar, a quick search from your start menu will reveal this nifty little tool.

You can customize the color of your Sticky Notes, customize the font. So you can see how you can really make it your own.

If you ever inadvertently delete an important Sticky, don’t panic. You may be able to retrieve it. I almost had a heart attack when I deleted one on accident so this is how I know how to attempt to recover them. Simply navigate to run and type:

%AppData%MicrosoftSticky NotesStickyNotes.snt

That is the quickest way to access that file. Otherwise, the full path you would need to access through each folder is (replacing username with your actual username-no brackets):

C:Users<UserName>AppDataRoamingMicrosoftSticky NotesStickyNotes.snt.

Open the .snt file with notepad and ctrl+F to find the note in question. Just copy the text minus the gibberish and paste into a new note.

Here is a quick Youtube video from Tech Tips Magazine that shows you exactly how to do it.

If you don’t want to go through this hassle to retrieve a note, I would suggest you not turn on off the “are you sure” dialog box that pops up when you attempt to delete a note. Trust me, they put it there for a reason.

Sticky Notes is a great tool that can help anyone with their creative process. If you are already a Sticky Notes user, how does is help you? Let me know in the comments.
